#CallMeCaitlyn.. Or Not
Well you know the old saying, “If you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything at all”? Not that I am a fan of that old adage, I prefer if you have something scathing to say whisper it in my ear. However when you’re a celebrity you should be extra careful, unfortunately, or fortunately, some celebs can’t keep their wide open traps shut. And so begins our tale…..
I have kept pretty quiet about the Bruce Jenner transition into Caitlyn Jenner for good reason, what needs to be said but, “WEEEEEE!!”? Well maybe that for 65 years old girlfriend is rocking that bod. Get it girl! While some are hailing Caitlyn as brave, others have been less positive towards her including celebrities. Well, “celebrities”, and you will understand the quotes in a second.
Drake Bell, best known from being a tween star of yesteryear thanks to the series Drake & Josh on Nickelodeon, is an expert at saying stupid shit on Twitter. In regards to Caitlyn Jenner there was no reprieve.
Soon after he posted his message Bell received an onslaught of hate, because nothing says fight hate than fighting it with hate, so he tried to backpedal on his tricycle from the speeding trainwreck, but it didn’t work. Bell tried to smooth things over by saying, “I’m not dissing him! I just don’t want to forget his legacy! He is the greatest athlete of all time! Chill out!” Which no one was listening so he deleted the tweets. That should solve it eh? Nope.
It’s easy to make jokes about this thing and to not understand it to the point of ignorance. However for anyone to make a transition in their life takes heart and bravery. Regardless of whether she is famous or not this would have been something she would have to live publicly, so she did it on HER terms. For people to call her anything but brave because she is not a police officer, firewoman or in the military is ridiculous. This is not to diminish who she is or what she has accomplished, because no one is saying that one is more brave than another. What is being said is that it takes a lot of bravery to live everyday and for someone to take a stance and scream from the mountain top who they are and embrace themselves may give someone else struggle a little bit of hope.
Just because you don’t understand their journey doesn’t make it any less important, it just makes it different. No one said all bravery looks alike but for someone to stand face to face with adversity is brave, and if it isn’t, I don’t know what brave looks like either.
